Cookies and local storage

Full inventory. If it's here, the code stores it; if it's not here, we don't store it.

Platform cookies

  • vte_user1 yearHttpOnly · SameSite=Lax

Identifies your account after activating a code. Lets My space and reading progress recognise you on future visits.

  • vte_anon1 yearHttpOnly · SameSite=Lax

Anonymous identifier for visitors without an account. Lets reflections and saved items created before activation persist after you activate.

  • vte_welcomed1 yearSameSite=Lax

Marks that you've already seen the welcome page. Used only so /welcome shows the short version on subsequent visits.

Local storage

In addition to cookies, the app stores some preferences in the browser's local storage. They don't leave your device and are not sent to the server.

  • vte_reader_tweaksbrowser localStorage

Stores your reading preferences (light/dark theme, text scale, accent colour). Only affects how the reader looks.

How to delete them

Any modern browser lets you delete cookies and local storage from its preferences or with “Clear site data”. If you do this, you'll lose your session and reading preferences, but your reflections and saved items (which live on the server) remain intact if you sign in again.

Provisional text · this inventory reflects the actual behaviour of the code and is kept in sync with every release.
